The AMD Athlon clocked at 650 MHz and featuring the 0.25 µm process was launched on August 9th, 1999. This engineering sample was produced in mi-July. Some weeks after the official introduction of this CPU, AMD launched the thunderbird core (0.18 µm) process. By the way, the Athlon "classic" ramped up to 1 GHz.
